Katie Knighten, age 95, of Monticello passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born February 10, 1918 in Drew County, AR to the late William Andrews and Carrie McGough Andrews. She was proud to be named after her grandmother, Kathern (Katie) Hollinger Burks.
She was the widow of James William Knighten, a housewife and belonged to the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Vester Andrews of Pine Bluff, J.C. Andrews of Monticello, Cecil Andrews of Monticello, Pat Andrews and Jimmy Andrews and three sisters, Pearl Shreves of Monticello, Linnie Lagrone of Monticello and Malvie Bawcom of Montrose.
Survivors include three sons, James Knighten of Waldron, Robert Knighten of Booneville and David Knighten of Alexander; two daughters, Nancy Watson of Soldatna, AK and Rebecca North of Monticello; a sister, Helen Moses of McGehee; one granddaughter, Desiree Johnston of Liberty, TX; six grandsons, James (J.D.) Watson of Olympia, WA, John Watson of Anchorage, AK, Marc Knighten of Portsmouth, VA, Marshall Johnston of Waldport, OR, David M. Knighten of Paris, AR and Dustin Knighten of Charleston; ten great grandsons, four great granddaughters and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
