Welcome

I am a Veteran.Charlie Vincent, Sr.
March 15, 1920 - June 4, 2014

Charlie Beautte Vincent, Sr. was born March 15, 1920 to the late Jesse and Mary Ellen (Handley) Vincent. He departed this life on June 4, 2014, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, AR.

Having been born and raised in Drew County, Arkansas, Charlie was educated at the Montongo School. In addition, he received his early religious training at Mt. Pleasant AME Church.

On April 26, 1944, Charlie entered the United States Army. He trained at Camp Robinson in Arkansas as well as Camp Claiborne in Louisiana. After training, he served overseas in Africa, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Battle Star, American Defense and Victory Ribbons. Charlie continued to demonstrate his patriotism by working with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. After his service in the military, Charlie worked as a mechanic at EXXON stations in Monticello. He was regarded as an expert in automotive repairs. His willingness to help people with their cars often led to long lasting friendships.

Upon retirement, Charlie renewed his love for classic westerns and cowboy movies. Part of his daily routine included waking up early to see the shows he loved as a child.

He was preceded in death by three children: Carl Edward Vincent, Curtis Vincent, and Sherry Lynn Vincent Lambert.

Charlie married Mildred Smith April 8, 1944 and to this union nine children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 70 years, five sons and two daughters: Charlie (Bennie) Vincent, Jr. of Monticello, AR; Frederick (Marilyn) Vincent of Monticello, AR; Willard (Barbara) Vincent of Monticello, AR; Dwight (Melissa) Vincent of Monticello, AR; Victor (Jacqueline) Vincent of Richmond, TX; Wonda Chestnut of Rosenberg, TX; Barbara Benton of Warren, AR; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
