Harry W. Burnett, age 99, of Monticello passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, AR. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Morrell and Lettie Trotter Burnett; his wife of 62 years, Flora Burke Burnett; one brother, Garven Burnett; and one sister, Mavis Maier. He is survived by one son, Kenneth W. Burnett and wife Marjorie of Little Rock; one daughter, LaVeale Burnett of Palatine, IL; two sisters, Mary Alice Chatham of Dumas and Lorene Allen of Monticello; and one grandson, Burke Burnett and wife Erica of Monticello.
Mr. Burnett was a shipbuilder during World War II in Vancouver, WA. Thereafter, he worked in the oil fields of New Mexico, was a general building contractor in New Mexico and Monticello, and was a farmer in Drew County. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church and was a third degree Mason. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He experimented with solar energy devices and numerous practical inventions.
