April 15, 1929 - June 4, 2017

Edward Wells, age 88 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home in Monticello. He was born April 15, 1929 in Monticello, AR to the late Loveless Wells and Nancy Mae Spencer Wells.

Edward was christened as an infant in the AME Church and was an active member of the Pilgrim Rest AME Church in Monticello where he served as Steward, Trustee, Lay President, Choir member, Son of Allen member and Church School Teacher. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Loveless Leron Wells, Hubert Wells and Leslie Wardell Wells; two sisters, Martha Alzene Jones and Betty Jean Lindsey; and one grandson, Corey Adkins.

Edward leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 61 years, Ruby L Stanford Wells of Monticello; one son, Keith (Sammie) Wells, Sr. of Monticello; two daughters, Janice Wells of Kansas City, MO and Mary L. Wells; three grandchildren, Shabrae Polite, Anthony Wells and Keith Wells, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Kaydence Burks. Also mourning Edwards passing are one brother, Andrew Wells; three sisters, Nancy (Leon) Stearns, Shirley (Charles) Wilson and Dorris Wells all of Monticello; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Stanford of Dermott and Rebecca Cook of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Pilgrim Rest AME Church with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
