Linda Bassett Johnson

Linda Kay Bassett Johnson, age 61 of Monticello passed away, Friday, January 12, 2018 at her home in Monticello. She was born April 9, 1956 to the late Chester Bassett and Verline Phillips Bassett.

She attended Drew Central Elementary and Monticello High School. After graduation she attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello where she pursued a degree in Business. She was employed by the Office of Child Support Enforcement, where she was a legal secretary until her retirement.

She dedicated her life to Christ at early age. She was a very dedicated and faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a church announcer, clerk and member of the combined choir until her health failed. She was also the secretary of the Eastern Star, the NAACP and the Martin Luther King Commission.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Earl Johnson of Monticello; a sister, Velester Meads of Little Rock; two brothers, W.C. Bassett of West Covina, California and Cornelius Ray Bassett (Debra) of Monticello and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018 at First Missionary Baptist Church on North Bailey with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Online guestbook www. stephensondearman.com.
