Sister Velma Lee was born over a century ago on April 16, 1910 in Monticello to Jeanette Binns and Sirenus Binns. Velma moved to Cleveland, Ohio after graduating high school. Velma was employed, but was a homemaker most of her life.
She was united in matrimony to Peter Green and Robert Lee both whom preceded her in death as did her parents, step-father Fleming Deboles, and a sister Beatrice Hicks.
Velma accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, and sang in the choir until her health failed. Velma was also an honoree member of the Effie E. Brooks Civic Club.
Velma was admitted to the Woods of Monticello (Formerly Beverly Health Care Center) on January 16, 2006 and there she met her second family. She made many friends and was loved by everyone. Velma was a feisty, strong willed woman who showed love and devotion for family and friends. She possessed a kindness and concern for others.
To cherish her memories are; nephew, A.J. Hicks, Jr. and niece, Velma J. Hicks, both of Southfield, MI; two great-nieces, Vicky Harris of Monticello and Raven Cole of Little Rock; two great-great nieces, Tierra Harris of Conway and Imani James of Little Rock; great-great-nephew, Terrez Grider of Conway; great-great-great nephew, Zaydin Grider of Fayetteville; great-great-great niece, Amari Ewing of Little Rock; The Woods Nursing and Rehab Staff and all of her friends in the community.
