Robert Binns
October 13, 1952 - December 31, 2013

Robert James Linell Binns was born October 13, 1952 in Monticello, Arkansas to Callie Marcelene McCray & Robert (Boots) Binns. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Drew Memorial Hospital.

Linell "Duck" as he was called among friends & family, was a 1970 graduate of Drew High School. On December 30, 1972 he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn E. Johnson; and to this union, four children were born.

At the age of 12, he began working at the Pepsi Cola Plant. He finished High School and went to Pine Bluff Vo-Tech for Mechanics. Other jobs included: Harmon Wilson, Joe's Forestry, Don Malones Urban Housing, Burlington Spinning Plant, UAM, and International Paper, where he retired. He began working at CC's Daycare alongside his wife where he was dedicated and known to all the children as "Papa."

In Linell's younger years, he was a member of Pilgrim Rest AME Church. Later he obeyed the gospel and became a member of the church of Christ and worshipped at the church of Christ at Kennedy Boulevard, where he remained until his health failed.

Linell loved sports. He was an avid hunter which is how he earned his nickname “Duck.” He played baseball as a student and as an adult he played softball in the community. He competed in the bowling league in Monticello. Linell coached little league baseball for years and was a mentor to many young people, leading his mentees to championships.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Binns and Marcelene McCray-Ross, a sister, Gladys Daniels, and a grandson, Robert III.

Linell was a family man and dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Carolyn Binns; four children: Robert Binns Jr. (Nancy) of Shreveport, LA, Rodney Binns (Sharmaine), Camisha Binns, Reggie Binns (Catherine) of Monticello, AR; Nekietha Johnson, Raymond Clary (Anne), raised as his children, and a special son, Terrence Jones of Monticello, AR; seven siblings: Calla Fisher (Joseph) of Parsons, TN, Dewey Binns of Monticello, AR, Quincey L. Ross (Janice) of Grandbury, Texas, Luevonda Ross, Rose Scott, and Virginia Binns all of Monticello, AR, and raised as a sister, Corine Smith of Milwaukee, WI; thirteen grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
