Alpha Ambrose
January 3, 1937 - June 17, 2018

Mrs. Alpha Menerva Phillips Ambrose, 81 passed away on June 17, 2018, in her son and wife's, Roderick and Lisa Ambrose, home in Jacksonville, AR. She was born January 3, 1937, in Lacey, AR, to the late Jasper and Lillie-Bell Banks Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Annie Mozelle Jacobs, Margaret Hubbard, Dorothy Ann Phillip; and one brother, Osmond Phillips.

Alpha accepted Christ as her savior at an early age in the Presbyterian churches, in the Longview & Lacey communities. She later married & united with the First Baptist Missionary Church in Monticello, AR. She served as a member of the choir and missionary society. She also served on the kitchen and flower committees and helped in any other areas where assistance was needed. Alpha remained a faithful member until her failing health and was called home to be with the Lord. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 64 of Monticello. She also enjoyed membership in the Effie E. Brooks Civic Club.

Alpha started working for Drew Memorial Hospital as a Certified Nurses Assistance in the early 1950's and retired in the 1980's as a Surgical Instrument Processing Technician. She also worked many years in the Rug Fringe Department at Burlington Industries.

She enjoyed cooking, fishing, sewing, gardening, quilting, and making various crafts. There was nothing she enjoyed more than having a house full of family.
Alpha was united in Holy Matrimony to James Ambrose on July 20, 1958. They remained in holy matrimony for 60 years until the Angels carried her home. Their union was blessed with five children.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories and celebrate her deliverance to God, three sons, Roderick (Lisa) Ambrose of Jacksonville, AR, Kenneth Ambrose of Dermott, AR, and Phillip "P.H." Ambrose of Monticello, AR; two daughters, Linda (Arthur "A.J.") Johnson of Jacksonville, AR, and Paula (Tyrone) Thompson, both of Mt. Juliet, TN; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
