Bertis Lee Sawyer

Mr. Bertis Lee Sawyer was called home on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at The Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation in Monticello, Arkansas. He was born June 21, 1941, in Drew County, Arkansas to the late Thona and Eddie Sawyer. Bertis was a member of the Holy Jerusalem Victory Church of God in Christ. He worked in Pulpwood until he retired. After retirement, Bertis started raising vegetables and being a handyman.
In addition to his parents, He is preceded in death by three brothers, Ledward Sawyer, Robert Roy Sawyer, and Thomas Sawyer; three sisters, Lula Bell Colbert, Alice M. Wilson, and Caroline A. Green.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 56 years, Gracie L. Washington-Sawyer; three children, Charlotte (Stephon) Ridgell, Stacy (Libby) Sawyer of Monticello, Arkansas, and Winter (Marvin) Owens of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, Crystal Shepherd of Shreveport, LA, Gary Shephard of Houston, TX, Stephanie Banks of Monticello, AR, Stefen Ridgell of Shreveport, LA, Charlayah Ridgell of Osceola, AR, Chancellor Owens, Jazlyn Owens, Marvin Owens, Jr., and Stacy Sawyer, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Zion Shepherd, Zynell Shepherd, Xiyia, Ziyia Ridgell, and Jayla Evans; four sisters, Mary Childress of Crossett, AR; Carolyn Simmons of Florida, Barbara (Bruce)Wesley, and Cheryl Wilson of Detroit, Michigan; a very special nephew, Windell Wilson and wife Isabella; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Graylin Willson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, Arkansas.
