Maye Thurman Carter

Maye Thurman Carter, age 80 of Ruston, LA, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at her daughter's home in Ruston. She was born June 7, 1945, in Monticello, AR to the late John Collie Thurman and Bonnie Hackney Thurman.
She was a long-time purchasing agent for Ashley County Medical Center and Burns Security from which she retired. Mrs. Maye was a Baptist and long-time member of Promise Land Baptist Church. She loved going to church and praising the Lord and also loved her family dearly and always made sure they were taken care of. Maye always put others before herself. She loved spending the night with her sister, working in her yard, planting flowers and growing plants. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Johnna Sharp Stevens; one son, Kip Carter; one sister, Faye Thurman; one brother, Lamar Thurman; three grandchildren, Daniel Reap, Chance Sharp and Bryson Carter; five great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel. There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lacey Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Kip Carter, Bryson Carter, Cameron Stain, Wayne Stain, Greg Rodgers and Shane Hartley.
