Jim DeFir

Perry James ''Jim'' DeFir, age 84 of Monticello, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, April 20, 2026, at his home. He was born February 5, 1942, in Desha County, AR to the late Robert Moore DeFir, Sr. and Laura Esther Slaughter DeFir.
He was a retired cattleman, United States Army Vietnam Veteran and longtime member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. Jim sold all kinds of small equipment, automobiles and meat. He was known as the ''meat man'' in Dermott, AR. He also loved visiting with people, drinking his coffee but most of all, he loved going to church. He was a member of the Drew County Cattleman's Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter DeFir, Robert DeFir, Jr., Kilbourne ''Slim'' DeFir and David Daniel DeFir; and two sisters, Norma Burton and Lois Bowers.
He is survived by his chosen child, Penny Martin; a granddaughter, Ashley Vest along with numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, William ''Preacher'' DeFir; four sisters, Gail Williams, Grace Acord, Gwen DeFir and Diane Maddox; a special caregiver, Brad DeFir; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Oak Grove Assembly of God Church with Bro. Charles Graham and Bro. Scotty Holloway officiating. There will be a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. preceding the funeral service in the church. Burial will be in Selma Cemetery with military honors. Serving as active pallbearers are Brad DeFir, David Maddox, Damien Harrison, Drake Hale, Silvano Yanez, David Light, Blake Block and Bj Sivils. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Larry Williams and Gibbs Ferguson. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Jim's honor.
