Send Flowers Send Flowers
Janice Marie Burks was born August 19, 1966, to the very proud parents, Otis and Erma Burks, Sr. in Monticello, AR. She departed this life on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at her childhood home surrounded by her loving parents and family. Janice or ''Jan'' as she was affectionately called by family and those close to her was the baby of five children.

Janice was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Norman and Bernice Moore, and her paternal grandparents, Leroy Burks and Tommie Mae Batts. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Tommie Jean and Debbie Sue (her best friend and birthday month twin) Burks.

Janice confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at Brooks Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Paul Everett, Sr. She was a faithful and hard-working servant for God. She loved driving her parents to Sunday morning and evening worship services to praise and worship the goodness and faithfulness of God. Her love for God was seen through her love shown to her family. Anyone who knew Janice knew that her faith and family were two of the most important things in her life.

Janice was a graduate of Monticello High School's class of 1984. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1988, where she received her BA in Business Administration. After graduation, Janice gained employment at Walmart, where she worked for 30 years as a cashier and worked her way into management. Customers knew they could always receive assistance with a smile from her. She loved her job and assisting others.

Janice leaves to cherish her memories her loving parents, Otis and Erma Burks, Sr. of Monticello, AR; two siblings, Brenda (George) Welch of Mabelvale, AR and Otis Burks, Jr. of Monticello, AR; aunts and uncle, Norma Jean (Eli) Selph, Peggy Sue Bardley, Barbara Ann (Clint) Richardson, and Earston Burks; five devoted coworkers, Angela, Melissa, Phyllis, Rose, and Quinella; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends to whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Stephenson Dearman Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, January 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial in Brooks Chapel Cemetery.

There is NO easy way to say goodbye to a life long friend. From kindergarten to now. A span of 50 plus years. Jan (as I called her) and her family has been a part of my family for years. From sleepovers at their house when I was 7 years old, to just sitting out enjoying each other. We were all like family. Jan was always the SAME. She was a steady friend. Of all of the 50+ years, we never had had an argument or disagreement. That was the type of friend that Jan was. Down to Earth and sweet. I thank GOD that you were a part of our lives. Thank you for for being YOU!! Give Debbie and Tracey a hug for me!! Til We Meet Again. Jackie. Class of 1984.
