I served in the armed forces.
James Scott entered into this life on April 4, 1949, to Pious Joe and Eula B. Williams Scott in Leland, MS. Coming from strong, God-fearing, loving parents, James carried these attributes through his nearly 75 years of life. James departed this earthly life on March 2, 2024, at his home in Fountain Hill, AR surrounded by his wife and people who loved him. He will truly be missed by everyone.
Surrounded by his siblings, James attended school in Leland, MS. He joined his parents church, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Leland, MS and was baptized at a young age.
Once he graduated from high school, James moved to St. Louis, MO to begin this life's journey. He began an extensive career in the United States Navy in 1969 as a Chief Boatman's Mate. James received numerous awards and medals from the Good Conduct Award from 1969 to 1973 to the Armed Forces Reserve Medal from 1973 to 1993. Throughout his military career, he journeyed the world striving to achieve his military goals.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Pious and Eula Scott; a daughter, Maria Dionne Scott; brothers, Andrew Clark, Freeman Scott and Douglas Scott; and a sister, Ida Patterson.
He wed Jessie Sue (Carr) Scott on July 22, 2011, in St. Louis, MO. They happily shared the last 13 years together. He leaves her and many more to mourn his loss; sons, Terry, Jacques, Pious and James Scott and Melvin Hagens; a daughter, Aneisha Toler of Seattle, WA; brothers, Paul (Eunice) Scott of Virginia, Raymond (Carolyn) Scott of Illinois, Joe (Gretta) Scott of Missouri, Richard Scott of Mississippi, Steward Scott of Georgia, David (Hattie) Scott of Mississippi, Daniel Scott of California; sisters, Rosetta Cook of Missouri and Earlean (Levander) Hughes of Virginia; sister-in-law, Rosalin Scott of Missouri; his wife, Jessie Scott of Fountain Hill along with stepchildren, Constance, Norman and Jonathan; seven sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law by marriage; along with a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Graylin Wilson officiating. There will be a Wake from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Burial will be in Lacey Cemetery. You can sign James' guestbook registry on this website.
