I served in the armed forces.
Bill, a Korean War veteran, was born in Conway on July 19, 1931, to the late Archie Haynes and Tannie Glover Haynes. He went to be in the loving hands of his Lord on March 25, 2024. Upon his graduation from Hazen High School in 1950, as a Hornet football player, in Hazen, AR, Bill joined the Army where he trained as a paratrooper, leading to Operation Buster Jangle in Yucca Flats, NV. Bill married Mary Jo Taylor on July 5, 1952.
After his tours of duty with the Army, Bill and Mary Jo returned to Arkansas where Bill was employed by Mississippi River Transmission Fuel Corporation for 34 years. As a welder, they lived in Carlisle, Newport, Poplar Bluff, MO, and Pocahontas. Bill accepted a transfer to Monticello in 1971 as the supervisor of the natural gas pipeline from Pine Bluff, AR, to Bastrop, LA, until his retirement in 1990. Bill enjoyed flying and instructing student pilots, playing golf, bird hunting with his dogs, and horses. Bill received his Master Pilot Award in 2014 for 50 years of safe flying. Bill passed his love and talent for flying to his two sons and a grandson.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents, his wife, of 70 years, Mary Jo, an infant daughter, Terry Gayle, and son, David Blake Haynes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, J.R. Haynes, and sister, Gloria J. Moore. He leaves to cherish his memory son, Larry J. Haynes (Polly) of Andover, KS, grandsons, Joseph of Olathe, KS, Paul (Ali) of Lenexa, KS, Mark (Yvette) of Andover KS; and granddaughter, Amanda Bowers (John) of Azle, TX. Bill leaves 8 great-grandchildren, Will, Henry, Wyatt, Tannie, Kevin, and Polly Haynes, and Hudson and Emery Bowers. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda (Dan) of Stuttgart; a brother, Dennis Archie (Kathy) of Hazen; nieces, Carol Plant(Gil), Sandy Haynes, and Wendy Perry (Matt) and nephews and niece, John, Tracy, and Patti Sample.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving kindness and care during Bill's final year to the staff of The Woods, Hospice Home Care, and the ICU department at Baptist Health Medical Center in Monticello, and Dr. Tim Simon.
