Dorothy Jean Smallwood
December 14, 1941 - April 30, 2025

Dorothy Jean Hawkins Smallwood, age 83, of Monticello, Arkansas passed away, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at The Woods Nursing and Rehab in Monticello, Arkansas. She was born on December 14, 1942, in Bluffton, Arkansas to the late Eldridge Clinton Hawkins and Maudie Louise Pickens Hawkins. Dorothy was a wonderful cook. She worked for Dumas High School as a cafeteria worker for over 18 years. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time in the mountains. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and pretty plants. Her biggest joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Blankenship; and one sister, Velda Carr. She is survived by her children, Dennis Blankenship and Cathy Hales; grandchildren, Douglas Blankenship and wife Jean of Dyersburg, TN, Candice Harvey and husband Rick of Monticello, AR, Chris Owen and wife Laura of Monticello, AR, Jamie Hammill and husband Levi of Monticello, AR, Katelyn Lawson and husband Josh of Little Rock, AR; thirteen great grandchildren, Beau Blankenship, Caroline Blankenship, Jaci Hammil, Luke Hammil, Aaden Hammil, Keaston Hammil, Colton Bittle, Dalton Jordan, Anna-Jewel Jordan, Drake Harvey, Jake Owen, Zack Owen, and Lilah Owen; nine siblings, Mary Burr of Star City, AR, Thomas Hawkins of Star City, AR, Shelby Millholland of Dumas, AR, Sharon Harmon of Monticello, AR, Patricia Derry of North Carolina, Ronny Hawkins, of Gould, AR, Jimmy Hawkins of Star City, AR, Jane Smallwood of Dumas, AR, Debra Thaxton, LA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Tyro Cemetery in Tyro, Arkansas with Rick Harvey officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Arkansas Chapter, 320 Executive Court, Ste. 302, Little Rock, AR 72205-4545.
