I served in the armed forces.
William Lawayne Young, age 84 of Monticello, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Evergreen Living Center in Bryant, AR. He was born September 21, 1940, in Monticello, AR to the late Simp Lee Young and Obie Mae Sanders Young.

He was a retired Burlington Industries supervisor and a longtime member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. Lawayne graduated from Selma High School where he played basketball and was often the highest scorer for the team and once played a game on a broken foot. He loved to fish and watch Razorback Basketball games. He also spent two years at UAM studying business administration. Lawayne was known as ''Pop'' to his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Reba Young, Sue Lynn and Maxine Fortner.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Young of Monticello; a son, Marty Young and wife Gretchen of Fayetteville; a daughter, Jeniffer Martin and husband Chris of Alexander; three grandsons, Vernon and Joseph Young and Chase Martin; one granddaughter, Abigail Martin, two sisters, Vonnie Ruth Arnold of Crossett and Carolyn Andrews and husband Harold of Monticello; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at Sixteenth Section Cemetery with Rev. Terry Newman officiating. There will be a visitation Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. You can sign Lawayne's guestbook registry on this website.

    Barbara,& family, I am so sorry to hear about Wayne. My heart goes out to you, my prayers also. May God comfort & bless you.
    I hope Wayne & James are busy having a great reunion and planning a fishing trip. I understand there are all kinds of fish in crystal clear waters in that blessed place.
    Shane loved 'Mr. Wayne', & Wayne always called Shane "my little fishing buddy." They had some memorable times fishing. Especially the trip when the tent blew down!!
    I didn't realize Wayne was Simp Lee's son. My Grandparents were good friends with Simp Lee.
