Thomas ''Uncle Earl'' Nelson, age 96 of Monticello, AR, passed away Friday, October 10, 2025, at his home. He was born January 27, 1929, in Winston, MS to the late Charles Edward Nelson and Ada Lee Ellis Nelson.

During most of Thomas' life he was just a hardworking man. He had to quit school at a young man to work in the fields into his 20's. He later worked at a grocery store, feed and seed store, a gas station and a glove factory. Thomas was a man of many talents. After his day job, he would work at night. He was a very skilled seamstress for men and women and also loved to knit, embroider and quilt. He pieced and quilted over 200 quilts by hand. He also loved to garden where he broke his garden by hand every year. He loved to think that he wore the pants and would constantly pick on everyone. He was a member of Bellaire Baptist Church.

Thomas was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife for nearly 73 years, Imogene Duncan Nelson; four brothers, Richard Nelson, Edgar Nelson, Herman Nelson and William McCone; and three sisters, Betty Nelson Owens, Hazel McCone Fulgham and Louise McCone Fulgham. He always claimed he was the last of the Mohegans!

Survivors include two nieces, Juanita Darby and Lisa Nelson Maggard both of Monticello; and a nephew, Garry R. Nelson of Carthage, TX.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Dermott City Cemetery in Dermott, AR. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Forrest, Donnie Forrest, Mitch Bradford, Jacob Maggard, Steven Maggard and Richard Light. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Garry Nelson. You can sign Mr. Nelson's guestbook registry here on his page.
