Vernon faced many challenges, but he had a family that was always there to help navigate. In his younger days, Vernon attended several Special Olympic races where he received several medals that he was very proud of.
He received Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Vernon had a love for music, especially Mariah Carey. He was a faithful member of Shady Grove AME Church until his health failed. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Shirley Butler, Rose Martin and Geraldine Martin.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memories a brother, Glenn Martin, Sr.; three sisters, Willie Jones, Effie McGary and Donna Martin all of Monticello; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Christopher Goodman officiating. There will be a Wake Friday evening from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
