Eugene was retired from the Arkansas Department of Corrections with 30 years of service and served 12 years in the National Guard where he was honorably discharged. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved watching hunting shows on television and hanging out with his friends. He was well known locally for welding with his father, ''Big O''. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Russell; and his wife, Sharon Oakes.
He is survived by two sisters, Margie Beaucage and husband Paul and Toni Etue and husband Tim all of Star City; a brother, Steve Oakes of Monticello; two sons, Joshua Oakes and wife Megan and Matthew Oakes and wife Ashley all of Monticello; one daughter, Stacy Oakes of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Lizzie, Dani, Kenzie, Mason, Eli, Abigail, Emylee and Cobey all of Monticello; along with many other extended family members and friends.
There will be a visitation Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel.
