He was a retired pipeline truck driver, a United States Army Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. James enjoyed coon hunting where he attended many dog shows and was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his six siblings, Eva Gunnels, Julia Gober, Dub Morphis, R.L. Morphis, John Henry Morphis and Bobby Morphis.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wanda Lair Morphis of Star City; his three children, Sarah Dauback of South Dakota, Kevin Morphis and wife Tammy of Star City and Andy Morphis of Greenbrier; one brother, Roy Morphis of Cummins, GA; four grandchildren, Colby Morphis and wife Nancy, Drew Morphis and fiancé Savannah, Hannah Dauback and Miranda Morphis; four great grandchildren, Azaria, Adrina, Ayven and Essie; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Union Ridge Cemetery. There will be a visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
