In addition to his parents Johnny is preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Cornelius, Ruth Rumsey, and Louise Robinson; and two brothers, Thurman Bates and Cecil Bates, Jr.
He is survived by four sisters, Doris Whitley, Maxine DeLoach, Francis Gabel and Sissy Arms; two brothers, Hubert Ray Bates and Marcus Bates; one daughter, Brittany Nicole Bates; two grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
