Jack Dye, Jr. was born on January 1, 1942 to the late Jack Dye, Sr. and Pauline Dye in Cascilla, Mississippi. He was the 4th of eight children. Jack grew up in Mississippi farming in which he learned the value of hard work and family.

Jack loved baseball so much that he taught two of his sons about the game. One son said, “I would spend Sundays after church with Dad watching double hitter pro baseball games while dad would tell me ways I could be a better baseball player.” Jack loved eating honeybuns, and passed the taste of honeybuns on to his youngest son whom the neighborhood nicknamed “Honey Bun.”

Jack loved listening to the Blues, playing his guitar, fishing, watching westerns and professional baseball. Some of Jack’s favorite foods were Spam, mustard greens, catfish, cornbread, cookies and Honey Buns.

In addition to his parent’s he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella P. Johnson; one sister, Earleah (Price) Robertson; one brother, Frankie Dye.
