"I used to teach with Gene at Valdosta State, in South Georgia, about 35 years ago. He was my best friend and shared his wisdom with me, wisdom that I treasure to this day. May God give him eternal glory."

"My deepest condolences Mrs. Gulledge and family. I was Gene's colleague and friend during our short time of working together at UAM a long time ago. Gene and I used to discuss a variety of things ranging from research in small schools to Western art. He was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed having him as a colleague."
