Esther Mary "Marian" Cotham Bowden, age 94 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Belleview Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. She was born February 10, 1924 in Arkansas City, AR to the late John H Cotham and Emma Clayton Cotham. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bowden; one sister, Martha Dayton Miller; two brothers, Richard and Louis Cotham; and a son, Lynn Bowden.

She was 1942 graduate and Salutation of Arkansas City High School and attended Draughon School of Business in Little Rock. She was a corporal in the United States Marine Corp Women's Reserve during World War II and was a teletype operator in the communications office. Marian was a secretary in the Arkansas City Public Schools for 21 years and was a member of Arkansas City Baptist Church where she was church clerk for 30 years, Sunday school teacher and director of the children's department. She also served as an assistant pianist for the church for many years. She was married to her late husband, Jesse Bowden for 40 years and had two sons, Dwain Bowden and Lynn Bowden.

Survivors include one son, Dwain Bowden and wife Joan of Monticello; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Trippe Cemetery in McGehee with Military Honors. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
