Maurice Ashford
January 2, 1927 - February 10, 2020

Maurice Ashford, age 93 of Monticello passed away, Monday February 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by his wife and children in Monticello, AR. He was born to Pear Lee Langston and Lawrence Ashford on January 2, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.

He received a sixth-grade education where he attended school at New Light Community in Monticello, AR. He served in the capacity as president of the Singing Union #3 until his demise for over 44 years. He also served as one of the directors for the Southeast District Music Convention and he served in this capacity until his demise. He was a deacon at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, faithful Sunday School member and prayer warrior.

He was a laborer and worked at Potlatch in Warren, AR, for 16 years. He later worked at Charm Thred Spinning Plant and worked there until he retired in 1986.
During his retirement, Mr. Ashford served as a Foster Grandparent in the Crossett School District in Crossett, AR, for over 18 years. He enjoyed coaching baseball, hunting and fishing.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 60 years, Mae Ashford; a son, Rev. Marvin (Felicia) Ashford of McGehee, AR; a daughter, Jo Martin-Gentry of Monticello, AR; a daughter, Gayle Burks (Terrance) Logansville, GA, a son, Joseph Ashford, of Monticello, AR; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Union Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
