Hattie Bell Shorter
January 13, 1929 - May 25, 2020

Mrs. Hattie was born January 13, 1929 to the late Joe and Hattie Wimbley. She attended Wilmar Public Schools. She joined Shady Grove A.M.E. Church at an early age. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Elmo Shorter Sr. on July 11, 1956. They were married 47 years. After raising seven children, five boys and two girls, she became employed at the Bradley Memorial Hospital in Warren, AR, working as a cook until retirement. Mrs. Hattie, also known as Mama, Grandma, or Aunt Hattie, was known for her great home cooking, especially her tea cakes. She later moved to the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex, to live with Sharon and Elmo, and their children, Wendy, Justin and Sydni.
Mrs. Hattie departed this life on May 25, 2020 in Lewisville, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, he siblings, Bill, Curtis, MC, Johnny Lee, James, Ethel and Clovis.
She leaves to cherish her memory, seven children and one step – daughter; Walter (Francine) Givens of Zion, IL, Lonnie (Carol) Givens of Gurnee, IL, Thomas Shorter of Waldron, AR, Gary (Odessa) Shorter of Waukegan, IL, Shirley Shorter of Lewisville, TX, Elmo (Wendy) Shorter, Jr. of Euless, TX, Sharon Shorter of Lewisville, TX, Carolyn Matlock of Wilmar, AR, her twin sister, Mrs. Mattie Orr of Wilmar, AR, she also leaves 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grand and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing was held Monday, June 1, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Wilmar Cemetery, Wilmar, Arkansas. Sign online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
