Lewis Dale Orrell
December 10, 1953 - October 19, 2020

Lewis Dale Orrell, 66, of Monticello passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at his home in Monticello, surrounded by his family and friends, after a hard-fought battle with Leukemia. He was born Dec. 10, 1953 in Dermott to Jimmy and Sug Orrell. He was a 1972 Monticello High School graduate. He married his wife of 46 years, Peggie Turpin, on Jan. 5, 1974. Lewis was of the Baptist faith and was ordained as a Deacon at Collins Baptist Church, where he also served as the song leader and Sunday school teacher.
Lewis had many careers over the course of his lifetime, but his one true love was as a cutting horse trainer. He began riding horses early in life and the passion never left him. He won many cutting horse competitions and was the National High School Rodeo Champion in 1969. Even while pursuing other careers, he still trained horses, and their riders, part time throughout his life.
Most importantly Lewis was a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend. He was a mentor to many, leaving a legacy wherever he went. He was known for his dancing skills, quick wit and the way he made every person he met feel special and left them knowing they had a friend for life.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy E Orrell, of Monticello; father-in-law, Glen Turpin, of Harrisburg, Ark.; and one brother-in-law, Bobbie Turpin, of Monticello.
He is survived by his wife Peggie Orrell, of Monticello; his mother, Sug Orrell, of Monticello; his daughters, Holly (Casey) McCone , Melissa Orrell, and Keeton Orrell and her fiancé Doug Temple, all of Monticello; his brothers, Jimmy Darrell (Linda) Orrell, of Monticello and Don (Toni) Orrell, of Fordland, Mo.; his grandchildren, Shelby Orrell, Zachary Hale, Maddison Hale, Bethany Chisholm and Ella Chisholm. Brother-in-law, Mark (Mary) Turpin, of Morrillton; and sisters-in-law, Glenda (Kenneth) Bryan, of Marion, and Jackie (Doyle) Tyler, of Monticello; mother-in-law, Tommie Turpin, of Monticello; nephews, Jonathan (Lisa) Turpin, Sean Bryan, Scott (Melanie) Bryan, John Mark Turpin, Darrell (Ashlee) Orrell, Carl (Ashley) Orrell, and Aaron Orrell; nieces, Carron(Eddie) Cates, Cristi Wessel, Carri (Bryan) Kleck, Kelli (Brad) McTigrit, Emily (James) Grishner and Anna (Clay) Henderson; and numerous great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Graveside services following COVID-19 guidelines will be held at Rash Cemetery, east of Monticello on Hwy. 35, Thursday, Oct. 22, visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m. Brother Kenny Worbington will officiate. Pallbearers are Zachary Hale, Darrell Orrell, Carl Orrell, Darrell Windham, Brad McTigrit, Randy Bright, Lucien Wall, Jr. and Mike King. Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Bryan, Doyle Tyler and Mark Turpin.
