Dorcas Kay Strickland Burton
January 22, 1958 - September 27, 2022

Dorcas Kay Strickland Burton, age 64 of the Green Hill community, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, AR. She was born January 22, 1958, in Drew County, AR to the late Bobby Gene Strickland and Lexa Williene Norman Strickland.
Dorcas came to know her Lord and Savior on August 12, 1990, at Calvary Baptist Church in Warren, AR. She was a beautiful person who loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She met the love of her life at a young age and we often said, “there were few women who loved their husband as she loved her Buck.” She made many friends throughout her lifetime with the gift of never meeting a stranger and always wearing that beautiful smile. Dorcas was a 1976 graduate of Drew Central High School where she was the Pirate Queen, FFA Sweetheart and cheerleader. She loved her work on the pipeline working with her husband, and often making lifelong friends from the states they worked. To know Dorcas was to love her. She adored her son, Brandon, and his wife, Mandy, and her grandsons. She took great pride and dearly loved her whole family. She was known as the “favorite aunt” and Mamaw D. She was funny, loved to laugh, and tell jokes. She always enjoyed listening to her brother’s jokes, funny stories, and cutting up at any event. She truly loved and lived life to the fullest. Christmas was always special to her always making sure everyone had a present. It was always her goal to make sure everyone was happy, and always there for anything we needed. She was truly the matriarch of our family of 51. Dorcas loved camping, hunting, traveling, sunning on the beach, and having fun times with her sisters, sisters-in-law, and bestie, Tressia Donaldson, her best friend for many years. Dorcas will be missed tremendously by her husband, son, family, and all of those who were fortunate to know her. She was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was a born-again believer that knew heaven was her home. Dorcas fought a courageous battle with cancer and never dreamed of giving up.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by twin boys, Doyle Alan, Jr. and Michael Allen; and a daughter, Laci Kay Burton. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Doyle Allen (Buck) Burton of Green Hill; one son, Brandon Burton and wife Mandy of Lake Charles, LA; three grandsons, Trevor, Ty and Hunter Burton; two brothers, Mike Strickland and wife Susie of Monticello and Scott Strickland and wife Lisa of Fountain Hill; three sisters, Regina Wilson and husband David of Wilmar, Fonda Norris and husband Danny of Warren and Beverly Flemister and husband Jeff of Monticello; two brothers-in-law, Donnie Burton and wife Jorene of Dayton, TX and Robert Burton of Green Hill; three sisters-in-law, Joy Cooper and husband Fred of Monticello, Melinda Loveless and husband Herschel of Possum Valley and Debbie Burton of Green Hill; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends whom she loved very much.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Brother David Jacks and Brother Rocky Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. There will be a visitation Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the church. Active pallbearers are Trevor Burton, Ty Burton, Hunter Burton, Kyle Poe, Cody Strickland, Dane Loveless, Kipp Flemister and Kevin Wilson.
