Dear Joe,
Ben called me at noon & told me Sue had chosen this beautiful day to make her final journey home. I have had a real good cry. I know there were rocky times in our history. I am glad that, over the years, we worked all our issues out.
Sue Burgess was an exceptional mother to Benjamin. I feel honored that we had Ben and could share some parenting responsibilities, especially when she lost Eric.
Ben, I know you loved her & will miss her always. I hope you are comforted in knowing how much she cared about you.
Thinking back on Sue, I will always remember her great sense of humor & the good times & laughs we all shared.
Mr. Rowe, I can't express my condolences enough to you, either. I cannot imagine losing a child. I am so sorry.
Despite our history, Joe, I want you to know I have nothing but the deepest love & respect for the Burgess family. When Ben hurts, it hurts me, too. Furthermore, since you & I did "grow up together," remaining friends, co-parents, & fellow Christians, it causes me pain when you hurt. I pray God will ease your pain.
You should be proud. Twenty-five years with someone is quite an accomplishment.
