LeRoy Wooten, age 87 of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born November 29, 1930, in Cordell, OK to the late Arthur Wooten and Vergie Helvey Wooten. Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Wooten; and a sister, Mildred Wooten.
He was a retired manager for Safeway Stores, Inc. in Modesto, CA, having operated stores in Turlock, West Sacramento, Manteca, Red Bluff, and Merced, CA. His job responsibility was to open new stores, get them going and move on to the next one, spending 30 years with the company.
LeRoy was a member of the Church Of Christ where he served as deacon, elder and gospel preacher. He loved leading singing and taught all of his children that as well. He was an avid fisherman, bowler, sang in a quartet and, most importantly, was a Christian, always putting God first. He was family man, a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a hero to his children, but especially to his only daughter Kim, because she was a "daddy's girl".
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie Pack Wooten of Monticello; three sons, Randy Wooten and wife Monica of Kansas City, KS; Craig Wooten and wife Cindy of Cincinnati, OH; Mark Wooten and wife Amber of Jonesboro; one daughter, Kim Cooper and husband David of Monticello; one sister, Betty Dee of Hughson, CA; seven grandchildren, Erin, Zach, Joel, Sonya, Seth, Brinley and Baylee; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous precious nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
