Kittie Spencer Hoofman
January 27, 1920 - July 15, 2018

Kittie Spencer Hoofman, age 98, died on July 15, 2018 in Texarkana, TX. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Spencer on January 27, 1920 at Ladelle, AR. Kittie graduated from Drew Central High School and Monticello Business College.

Kittie went to work in the office of the Monticello Cotton Mills in 1940. On March 1, 1941 she married William H. "Bill" Hoofman. Bill joined the United States Air Force in April 1942 and served his country until December 1945 with the Eighth Air Force. During the time her husband was serving in the Air Force in World War II, she joined him in Sacramento, CA where he was stationed at Mather Air Base. She worked at the Air Base in the Finance Department until Bill was transferred to the state of Washington, where she joined him until he was to be transferred for overseas service. She returned to Monticello in the fall of 1942 and lived there until his return from the war. Kittie lived and worked at different jobs in Monticello until her husband returned from the war in December 1945. Two sons were born to the couple and they moved to Conway, AR in 1956. While living there she worked for Arkansas Teachers College, which is now UCA until returning to Monticello in 1966.

In 1967, she went to work for Arkansas A & M College which was later called UAM in 1967 until retiring from the Chancellor's Office on June 30, 1990. After retiring, she served as Treasurer for the Drew County Historical Society and Museum for 14 years in Monticello. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Colonel David Love Chapter of the DAR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William H. Hoofman, one son, Spencer Hoofman, two brothers, Jack L. Spencer, Jr. and Ray Kimbrough, as well as one sister, Marie Farrer. She is survived by son, William E. Hoofman and wife Susie of Texarkana, AR; one grandson, John Aaron Hoofman and wife Meagan of Texarkana, AR; great-grandchildren, Clovie Ruth, Simon Ollie and Abram Gunner; one step granddaughter, Haley Suzanne Cook and husband Cody of Texarkana, AR; one step-grandson, Clint Woodall and wife Lucy and their two children, Alan and Nigel; great-granddaughter, Haislee Suzanne Cook; one sister, Jean Spencer Wilks of Malvern, AR; five nephews and numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Lacey Cemetery. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
