Jerry Don Akin, age 60, of Monticello passed away Monday, January 24, 2011, in Fordyce, AR. The son of Geneva Burton Byrd of Monticello and the late Floyd Akin, he was born May 8, 1950 in Crossett, AR. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Haisty and his stepfather, Benson Byrd.
He was employed at Burlington Industries for 33 years in management and was currently the manager of Warrior of Arkansas. Jerry was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a devoted member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He also cherished the time he got to spend with his many friends. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Belinda Sullivan Akin of Monticello; two daughters, Laura Akin Strickland and husband, Paul of Benton and Carrie Akin Williams and husband, Chris of Bryant; his mother, Geneva Burton Byrd of Monticello; three grandchildren, Katie and Chloe Strickland and Ella Williams; and three nieces, Vicki Tiner, Melissa Johnston and Ashley Tiner.
