Barney Lamon Herring, Sr., 86, of Monticello, Arkansas passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born June 8, 1939, in Monticello, Arkansas to the late James Murphy Herring and Azelea Kimbro Herring. Barney was employed with the Arkansas State Highway Department before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a family man. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed dancing, singing, and just having a good time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Barney was preceded in death by his wife, Genieve “Gen” Herring; daughter, Debbie Herring Donaldson; brothers, Damon Herring and Bartley Herring; grandson Christopher Trantham; great grandson, Waylon Moore; and sister-in-law, Joan Herring.
Barney is survived by his fiancé, Mary Woods; children, Mary Trantham and husband George, Kathy Bailey and husband Tom, and Barney Herring, Jr. and wife Viola; son in law, Ronnie Donaldson; nine grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Sanson and husband Jerry; and a sister in law, Linda Herring; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Campground Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Bro. Larry Donaldson and Bro. Ab Pevey officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the graveside in Campground Cemetery. You can sign Barney’s guestbook on his page.
