Sister Joyce Ann Washington Darrough 67, of Monticello, Arkansas was born in Drew County on August 6, 1958, to the late Newt and Addie Washington. She departed her life on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Baptist Hospital Drew.
Joyce graduated from Drew Central High School in 1976, Professional Beauty College on August 4, 1990, and attended University of Arkansas in Monticello.
Joyce grew up in the Pentecostal church. As a young adult she obeyed the gospel of Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Kennedy Boulevard where she enjoyed being a part of service and believed in the power of prayer.
Joyce gained employment with Burlington Industries, Drew Central School, and Southeast Arkansas Advantage for a combined total of 49 years. She was a very hard worker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joyce was the heart of every family gathering, never a dull moment. She was known for her remarkable knowledge of family history and had a fond love for cooking, cleaning and working in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by four brothers, James, Edward, Eugene and Newt Washington Jr and one sister, Margaret Griggs.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted son Christopher (Patrice) Spencer; two grandchildren, Devon Spencer and Daryn Spencer; three great-grandchildren, Krue Junior, Jax and Imoni Spencer; two brothers Bernard (NeoShanta) Washington, and John (Kimberly) Washington; four sisters Gracie Sawyer, Leola Roberts, Earlene Middleton, and Hazelene (James)McCray Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Washington and Barbara Washington; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
