James Brian “Jim†Mitchell, age 84 of Crossett, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at his home. He was born January 7, 1942, in Dermott, AR to the late Mary Elizabeth Bishop Mitchell and Richard Collins; and was later adopted by the late Joe Lee Mitchell.
He was a United States Army Veteran, a Christian and a 1959 graduate of Monticello High School. James loved watching Razorback football, working on his properties, hunting, fishing and caring for the many hummingbirds that visited his property. In addition to his parents and adoptive father, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Audrey Mitchell; and two half-brothers, Bobby Collins and Butch Collins.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Mitchell and wife Tonya and J.B. Mitchell; a brother, Robert Lee Mitchell; four sisters, Mary Jo Mitchell, Kim Manasco, Edith Boswell and Hope Hartness; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel. There will be a visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rash Cemetery.
