Louise Acree
January 11, 1923 - April 5, 2010

Born January 11, 1923 to Leo Burk and Sara Moore Burk in Rome Georgia, where she attended Rome High School and graduated from college. After college she worked in Miami, Florida as a Military Mail Censor until the end of World War II. Later she was employed by the Welfare Dept. in Georgia and continued her education as a social worker at the New York School of Social Work, a graduate dept. of Columbia University. She then continued work as a child welfare worker with the Georgia Welfare Dept. until she met and married Leroy Acree, her husband of 58 years. Shortly after marriage she was appointed by the state welfare director to the positions of Superintendent of the Girls Training School in Atlanta, Georgia. After this she returned to New York with her husband where he completed work on his master's degree in Social work.
After returning to Georgia she opted to become a homemaker and care for her two children. She was a loving and devoted mother and a strong influence in their development as caring and responsible citizens. In 1960 she moved to Monticello, Arkansas with her family.
She was a longtime member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Monticello, a member of Drew County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of American Assoc. of University Women. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Burk and one sister Betty Burk.
Survivors include her husband Leroy Acree of Monticello; one son, Steven Acree and wife, Jill of Ada, OK; one daughter, Jeanne Hatcher and husband, Price of Arvada, CO; one brother, Hugh Burk of Demopolis, AL; one grandson, Dustin Hatcher of Denver, CO; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Acree of Ada, OK; one great-grandson, Dillon Hatcher, of Denver, CO.
