Betty Lou Hughes
September 27, 1936 - April 11, 2020

Betty Lou Hughes, age 83, of Monticello, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 11, 2020, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ivan Dayton and Aline Howard Allison and the widow of Dale Hughes, USAF Lt. Colonel (Retired) and former Drew County Judge.
Ms. Hughes was a member of the Mt. Pleasant “Campground” Methodist Church since 1977. She was an active volunteer in the community over her lifetime. She served as President of We are Monticello, dedicated to the beautification of Monticello, a member of the Committee of 100, a group of women that supported and promoted the Ozark Folk Center, Drew County Chamber of Commerce’s 1988 Woman of the Year, Chairman of fund raising for the Drew County Walls of War Memorial, decorated the backyard of the Governor Mansion for picnic honoring all of Arkansas troops who served in Desert Storm, and selected as Arkansas’ Volunteer of the Year in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Hughes and wife Nancy of Georgetown, TX, and Jay Hughes and wife Laura of Monticello, AR; one daughter, Chris Pace and husband Mark of Monticello, AR; Grandchildren, Aaron Sweeten (Rosie) of La Porte, TX, Jay Michael Hughes (Amanda) of Las Vegas, NV, Ryan Hughes (Laurie) of Georgetown, TX, Justin Hughes (Sarah) of Jarrell, TX, Ashley Kelnhofer (Nick) of Monticello, AR, Jacob Hughes (Tracy), of El Paso, AR, Dale Pace (Karla) of Greenhill Community, Allison Neill (Alan), of Monticello, AR, Jack Morgan Pace, (Shayla), of Bentonville, AR; Great Grandchildren, Briana Alvarado, Robert Villarreal Jr. and Kaylee Sweeten, Jackson, Benjamin, and Charlie Hughes, Levi Hughes, Sophia and Brooks Kelnhofer, Austin Graham, Abby Ruelle, Madison Hughes, and Joseph Hughes, Emma and Dayton Pace, Jace and Bo Neill, Colt and Myla Pace; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A viewing for extended family and friends will be Thursday, April 16, 2020, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello, AR. We ask that you follow COVID-19 protocol and no more than 10 people at a time in the visitation room and you keep the CDC recommended 6 foot distance from each other. There will be a Private Family Graveside service Friday, April 17, 2020, at Campground Cemetery at 10 a.m. Those that are unable to attend due to the virus can view the live stream of the service at www.stephensondearman.com. There will not be a guestbook so please visit our website www.stephensondearman.com to leave your memories and condolences.
