He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Gould, AR under the leadership of Pastor Childs. Later he united at Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Loggin. He grew up in Readville, AR. He attended Reed School. He also attended UAPB Vocational School. He had his own trucking business. After retiring from his trucking business, he enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, fishing and working on cars.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Maxine Cotton of Monticello; one daughter, Minnie Toston (Michael) of Pine Bluff; one son, Kelvin Potter of Pine Bluff; step-children, Marilyn Simmons and Melvin Veasey of Little Rock, LeRon Veasey, Kirby Veasey, and Carolyn Stanley of Monticello, Dannell Veasey and Raymond Veasey of New York City; one sister, Gloria Finch of Pine Bluff; four brothers, Arthur Lee Cotton of Pine Bluff, Howard Cotton of Dumas, Moses Cotton of Little Rock and John Henry Cotton of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Terrance Potter, Quinton Potter, Chelsea Johnson, (and a special granddaughter) Olivia Collings; one special 'lil niece, Destiny Brown-Finch and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
