Horace Eugene High, 93 of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Bastrop, LA, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was born June 11, 1921, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas and graduated from Fountain Hill High School May, 1940.

He was a WWII veteran and fought in The Battle of the Bulge Campaign in Europe. Upon returning from the war he graduated from Arkansas A & M College, now UAM-Monticello in 1954. Horace taught school for 42 years, retiring in 1988 in Bastrop, LA and was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church in Bastrop. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lucille Allison High, son-in-law Gary Diffley, his parents Ed & Hattie Gifford High and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by two children, Judy High Diffley and John Edward High and wife Elaine Richard High, one granddaughter Allison High Clemons and grandson-in-law Gregory Ross Clemons.

Funeral services will be at 9:00 am Tuesday, May 19 at the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home, Inc. Monticello, Arkansas. Burial will be at the Flat Creek Cemetery in Fountain Hill. Visitation 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be mailed to Northside Baptist Church, PO Box 3, Monticello, Arkansas 71655. Attn: Aundrey Paschall - Horace High Memorial.     Family I am sorry to hear of Mr. Highs passing and you are in my prayers.I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. High 30 years ago when he attended the wood working shop at the Vo-tech here in Bastrop and will always remember how happy and jolly he was. He was a wonderful man who always had a smile on his face and words of encouragement for those who needed it.
