He was born and raised in Kingsley, Iowa and later farmed in the Marcus, Iowa area raising soybeans, corn, alfalfa, cattle and swine. Don served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS North Carolina, and was a member of First United Methodist Meadow Star Church, Washta, IA, American Legion and a Mason for 50+ years in Kingsley, IA. He also attended First United Methodist Church in Monticello.
Survivors include four sons; Ric & Bonnie Collins of Marcus, Iowa, Rob & LeAnne Collins of Milford, Iowa, Dr. Ron & Carol Collins of New Orleans, Louisiana and Dr. Ryan & Allison Collins of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Stacey (Collins) & Steve Evans, Ben Collins and Chandell Hicks, Nate & Michelle Collins, Jon Collins, Dr. Asher & Katie Collins, Alicea (Collins) and Cody Parks, Tyler Collins and Logan Collins and seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelsey, Kaden, Kyan, Cambrie, Shelby and Carsyn.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. There will also be a second visitation and funeral service in Kingsley, IA at Rohde Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 28 and the funeral will be 10:30 A.M.
