Rev. Gary L. Jordan, age 71 of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born February 27, 1947, in Monticello, AR to the late Jack Earl Jordan, Sr. and Maude Boone Jordan.

He was a retired Baptist minister with a degree in Bible Theology from Bible Baptist College in Springfield, MO. Gary had a great love for God. He surrendered to preach in 1969 when God gave him a vision of people dying and going to hell. He spent the next 49 years serving him and proclaiming his word. He faithfully served God, pastoring five churches in four states. His passion for soul winning was second to none.

Gary also had a great love for his family. His wife of 52 years, Frances, was always by his side (unless he was hunting or fishing, and even then she was often with him). He had given her a pack of double mint gum on their first date and continued to do so on the anniversary of the first date for all the years they were together. He loved his children. He would often tell stories of the times they spent together. His grandchildren were also a source of many of his joyous times. He would remember fondly the special moments they shared as they grew up.

Gary also had a love for the service of others. In August of 1982, he became the pastor of Monticello Baptist Temple. He continued his service to the members of the church as well as many others in and around Drew County until October of 2015. Following his retirement due to health issues, he remained Pastor Emeritus for Monticello Baptist Temple. He was always known as a man with a servant's heart.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Adrian Jordan and Bobby Jordan; and one sister Lela Gavin.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Frances Lollar Jordan of Monticello; one son, Keith LaRon Jordan and one daughter, Andrea Marie Jordan both of Monticello; four grandchildren, Joshua Caleb Ashbaucher, Luke Alan Ashbaucher, Dalton Lee Jordan and Anna-Jewel Michelle Jordan; three brothers, Alvin Jordan (Marie), Danny Jordan (Glenda), and Jack Earl Jordan, Jr. (Jane) all of Monticello; two sisters, Jewel Hargis and Shelby Williams both of Monticello; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at Monticello Baptist Temple with burial to follow in Union Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.

Dear Frances, I remember when you and Gary were trying to adopt and everyone was praying for you and Gary about a child. And what a wonderful act of God. When He answered all the prayers with a miracle. I know there is wonderful rejoicing in Heaven that a beloved Son has come home. I can “Only Imagine “. May God comfort you and your family in this time of grief with the thoughts of the celebration. Carl and I will continue to pray for you.
