Mable Thompson Rhodes was born on October 22, 1919, in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Shelvis and Dora Thompson, Sr. She was the oldest of eight children, and a mother of six. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant AME church, homemaker, avid fisherman, seamstress of quilts, babysitter, and cook.

She is preceded in death by five siblings, T L Swift, NT Thompson, James Thompson, Effie Crowell, and Adrian Thompson; three children, Sharon Ann Thompson, Jesse Rhodes, Sr., and Hardy Rhodes, Sr., two grandchildren, Alic and Cedrick Thompson.

She leaves three children, Shirley (Harry) Griffin of Monticello, AR, Sterling (Molly) Thompson of Monticello, AR, and Vera Nur of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, Shelvis (Mary) Thompson, Jr. of Monticello, AR, and one sister, Narvis Bordeaux of Milwaukee, WI. She also leaves five generations of grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
