Callie Flora Jones Johnson, age 90, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro, AR.

A long-time resident of Monticello, she was born on July 22, 1918 in Lacey, AR to the late ElMina and Willie Lee Jones. She worked at the University of Arkansas at Monticello as a head resident from 1964 until her retirement in 1982. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Monticello, where she remained active until she moved to Jonesboro in 1998 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Johnson Pickens and son-in-law, Dick Pickens of Jonesboro; a sister, Louise Jones Grubbs of Monticello; a brother, Willis Jones of Lacey; five grandchildren, Karen Pickens Jones, Paul Pickens and John Pickens all of Jonesboro, Colin Johnson of Dresden, TN and Susan Johnson Abele of Reno, NV; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Paul Johnson, Sr.; a son, Samuel Paul Johnson, Jr.; a brother, Robert D. Jones, Sr.; and three sisters, Merle Jones Billingsley, Ruby Jones Bailey and Erma Lee Jones Snodgrass.

Active pallbearers will be Colin Johnson, Paul Pickens, John Pickens, Mark Jones, Trenton Jones and Sampy Jones.
