Larry Eugene Clements was born February 5, 1948, in Malvern, Arkansas to Pauline Harrison and William Eugene Clements. He met his Savior face-to-face on February 14, 2024. Larry was saved and baptized under the ministry of Bro. Curtis Brown at Norwalk Missionary Baptist Church in Norwalk, CA. He surrendered to the Gospel ministry in August 1965 at the age of 17. Larry has served the Lord and His churches faithfully ever since.

Larry served the Lord humbly and passionately, and he always stayed true to the Word of God. He received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD from California Missionary Baptist Institute, and his Doctorate of Ministry from Dallas Theological Seminary. Larry also served the churches of the American Baptist Association as a member of the Baptist Sunday School Committee, Clerk, and as Editor in Chief of Bogard Press (2003-2014). Larry taught in California Missionary Baptist Institute (Dean of Students) and Texas Baptist Institute, as well as serving on Missionary Training Module Board of Directors. Larry loved mission work and traveled extensively, preaching the Word of God in Mexico, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Kenya, Israel, China, the Philippines, and New Zealand. Larry was an avid walker, setting and accomplishing mileage goals every year. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Lee Van Ginkel; his step-father, Quentin ''Larry'' Lawrence; and a brother-in-law, Leland Hoover.

To Pat & Family of my old friend Larry.

Upon reading Jeanie's text message about Larry early on Thursday morning, my first reaction was disbelief and sorrow. In my mind, old memories came flooding in, of youth rallies, church league softball and basketball games, summertime church camp, and dozens of conversations with Larry, with him always in an upbeat mood with a familiar smile on his face one can never forget.

I can still see him sitting on a horse in our driveway in Bellflower that he rode over from Norwalk. He and Benny Chastain, playing cowboy up and down the San Gabriel River, which was two blocks from our house. He was a pretty good softball pitcher in our church league, and in one game Bellflower was playing Norwalk. I was playing second base and Larry was the runner for Norwalk and was on first base. I fielded a ground ball and was making a play for a forced out on Larry at second when we had a pretty bad collision, and my cleat tore up Larry's knee which required several stitches. I felt really bad about it and when I called him later that day, he was all smiles and joking with me about having to get Norwalk's pitcher out of the game so Bellflower could win. That was Larry. Never before a person with so much grace and positive presence.

Larry was President of the California State Youth Rally in 1965 I think it was. It was the last day of the meeting, after the annual sermon, which I think may have been delivered by Martin Canavan. When Larry stood up for closing announcements and comments, he was so moved by that sermon, it was obvious in his comments that he felt a great burden on his heart for the un-saved. In his comments he said he did not know how anyone could hear that sermon and not be moved to accept Christ, saying that "without Christ they are doomed!" Those of us who knew him well I think all were concluding at that moment that we were looking at the next great soldier of God. I think it was the following Sunday that Larry announced his call to the ministry. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Larry was always close to our family, if not in close in miles, always close in our hearts. We joked about being step-step brothers. Our Moms had both married the same man after the death of our fathers. Not at the same time of course. :) And Pat, the Reed family and Madden family share a mutual bond that was formed when we were all toddlers, so long ago. I can still hear that deep voice of "Boots", and I am sure he has welcomed Larry "Home".

May you and your family find a special comfort though God's grace, and the love of literally thousands who have been touched by the ministry of Larry and Pat Clements.

    With love,

    Phil & Laurie

    Brother Larry
My Friend and My Forever Pastor
He was and is what the Bible states a man-of God , father , husband , friend and lover of the church as what God describes in the Bible and a mentor and example for me and so many more .
My sorrows for the family but the rejoicing in Heaven and peace he taught now enjoy in Heaven.
  7. Janet and Mike Fodge
Although I didn’t know Bro. Larry very well, whenever I saw him, I was struck by his friendly smile and warm, accepting nature. I so enjoyed hearing him speak once in revival at New Liberty. I know he will be missed greatly by his family, church family and those who knew and loved him. Mike and I are praying for peace and comfort to you all.

My wife Somayeh and I were very fortunate to have been touched by Brother Larry's wisdom and kindness. Our condolences to the Clements family as well as the Pauline Baptist Church family. Brother Larry was a good man, and he has left a lasting legacy through his service to the Kingdom. We should all strive to live our our faith daily, as he did.

A gift of $100. has been given in honor of Bro. Larry to Gideons International. We could think of nothing Bro. Larry would have approved of more than sharing the Word of God through the distribution of Bibles to those in need.

May God wrap His arms around those feeling Bro. Larry's loss the most. Our family will contine to lift your family up in prayer, and asking the Father to bring a peace only He can bring.

Bro. Larry served as Interim Pastor at LMBC in 2009-10. He was a godsend. His infectious optimism, ability to apply the scriptures, and courage to tell us what we needed to hear was priceless. He so endeared himself to me that I visited him in the hospital in North Little Rock in 2009 and was privileged to buy his lunch at Stanley's BBQ while the Pauline Pacers were in Tyler Texas. I dearly love him, Pat, and the entire family. Larry was one of the good ones in the ABA and the kingdom. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

In the army if a soldier dies another takes his place. Last night one of the best soldiers in Gods army got his reward. The fact remains someone has to fill that vacent spot. Only God can fill the void in our hearts. There are so many jobs Bro. Larry has been doing. We could build a monument to the sky with everything he accomplished. Far better would be to get involved in the things that ment so much to him. I have been blessed to have him and his family as friends for a long time. Will be praying for his family.
  26. Ron and Jeanie Reed Cash
There are no words to express what Larry and Pat’s lifetime of friendship has meant to me. As a 13 year-old I was devastated to move from Okla to California and Larry immediately involved me with a circle of Christian friends and, what fun we had! We shared a stepfather and he teased me about being his stepsister. He was an amazing example to thousands of a godly husband, father, pastor, leader, teacher and friend. God bless Pat and family.

I was a college student at UAM when Bro. Larry and his family came to Pauline. One thing that immediately comes to mind were his extraordinary, detailed sermon outlines. The first time I saw one I thought, "Oh, no! He'll be preaching till 12:30 at least." What I liked most about Bro. Larry was his genuineness. He could expound on the deep mysteries of God and still manage to be a real, likeable person who related well with everyone. To Ms. Pat and his family, I want to offer my sincere condolences. Your husband, father, and grandfather made a real difference with his life, and I am thankful to have known him for a short few years.
