James Lefate "Monk" Higgins, age 85, of Monticello passed away Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born December 2, 1927, in Leola, AR to the late William Alexander Higgins and Artie Ethel Lemons Higgins.

He was a retired logger and a longtime member of the Friendship Pentecostal Church Of God. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lee Alexander and a sister, Mattie Jane Haynes.

Survivors include his wife, Retta Ann Kellum Higgins of Monticello; two sons, Steven Higgins and James Higgins both of Monticello; two daughters, Elizabeth King and Brenda Young both of Monticello; four brothers, Jerry Higgins of Monticello, George Higgins of Ladelle, Clay Higgins of North Carolina and Fred Higgins of Delhi, LA; four sisters, Lethel Losh Higgins of Bolivar, MO, Mary Lloyd of Monticello, Grace Watts of Truman and Iris Bush of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
