He was an active member of Teamsters Local #878 in Little Rock for 22years where he served as Steward and drove pipeline construction equipment and was a Baptist. He was the son of the late James Burwell Binns and Amie Lou Watkins Binns and was preceded in death by one brother, James Randall Binns.
Survivors include one brother, Dennis Binns of Monticello and one sister, Jamie Lou Wright of Monticello.

We have both thought all day about so many funny stories about Mert. I have always thought that James considered all of you as his brothers and sister. So many wonderful memories we have shared together around that table at the Binns home in Monticello, on the week long trips to Lake Chicot to catch some of the best crappie I have ever eaten. Mert will be missed by so many. He was always telling me I should have married him instead of James Roy and we would laugh.
