Charles was raised in Monticello, Arkansas and educated at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas with a BA in Chemistry and at the University of Arkansas Medical School with an MD and an MS in Biochemistry in 1962. After medical school he spent a year of internship in Medicine at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. The United States Army drafted him from 1963 to 1965 for duty with the Eighth Special Forces at Fort Bragg, NC. and in the U.S. Canal Zone, Panama.
Following his service, Charles came to Rochester, MN for a 3-year residency in Dermatology at Mayo Clinic, 1965 to 1968. When he left Mayo, Dr. Dicken established a private practice in Dermatology in Ogden, Utah for 8 years. In 1976 he returned to Rochester as a Consultant in Dermatology at Mayo Clinic where he enjoyed teaching both Dermatology Residents and Mayo Medical School students
Dr. Dicken retired after 20 years at Mayo Clinic and then entered practice in Dermatology at Olmsted Medical Center for the next 8 years. He was Board Certified, a Professor, a member of several professional societies, and an author of numerous medical articles. Besides his medical practice, his special interests were education, tennis and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda (Conti), two children, Charles Junior (Kristine) of Winona and Kyra (Cory) Reps of Northwood, Iowa and 7 grandchildren, Derek, Alexandra, Austin, Aspen, Cole, Tayler and Logan. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
