After a brief career in cosmetology, Elsie dedicated her life to serving her family. She was a devoted wife and nurturing mother. She remained by her husband's side until his last breath speaking words of comfort. Only hours before she breathed her own last breath she shared words of wisdom and encouragement with her family. Her loving, non-judgmental nature proved to have a profound and lasting influence on others. During her lifetime many people who met her would view her as their friend, confidant, and even "mother". Elsie opened her doors to every person who knocked. She was prepared to feed, clothe, or shelter any person in need. During her lifetime an untold number of people were touched by her outpouring of love and compassion.
Elsie was a member of Monticello First Baptist Church, PEO and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She loved to fish and talk with her grandchildren. She was an avid dancer and loved all types of music.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Deal of Monticello, parents, George "Dan" and Mary Yelvington of Hamburg, and a brother, Leland Yelvington of Collins. Survivors include one daughter, Millicent Conner and husband Frank of Harrison; a son, Michael Deal of Monticello, a son, Carl Deal and wife LaRhonda of Jonesboro; one sister, Louise Huffstetler of Oak Grove, LA; and grandchildren Brian Conner, Adam Deal, Mason Deal, Heather Deal Grbach, and Michael Deal as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
