Mary Jean Matthews, "Sug" was born to the late R.J. and Ruby Robinson-Matthews on November 2, 1954 in Monticello, Arkansas. She departed this life early in the morning of Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

She accepted Christ and became a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello, AR at an early age and remained there until her health failed and she finally went home to be with the Lord. Sug graduated from the Monticello Public School system and was later employed by Burlington Industries. "Sug" was kindhearted, loved her family and friends with all her heart and was also very soft spoken.

She is survived by her daughter LaToya Yvonne Matthews of St. Louis, Mo who was the "Apple of Her Eye" and "The Love of her Life"; One sister, Marilyn E. Matthews of Sherwood; Four brothers, George (Amanda) Matthews and Larry (Sammye) Matthews both of Monticello; Raymond Matthews of Pine Bluff; and Elvin (Maxine) Matthews of Alta Loma, CA. She is also survived by nieces Andrea, Natalie, Shalonda, Christy, LaKeisha, and Leslie. Nephews Richard, Anterio, Brandon, Ray, Calvin, Lance; 3 great-nieces; 9 great-nephews. She also had a host of wonderful cousins and the Easterwood Family of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
