Christine was born on September 5, 1928 in Monticello, Arkansas to the late A. E. Copeland and Thelma Boyd Copeland.
Christine was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Monticello where she served faithfully. Christine was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 58 years where she rose to the stations of Worthy Matron, Worthy Grand Warder, and Grand Representative to the State of Delaware. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting; she shared many of the items she made with her friends and family and presented many new-born babies with quilts and blankets that she made. Christine also loved to read.
Christine spent 42 years as a cotton mill worker. Her career in this area started at Charm Tread Mills of Monticello and then with Burlington Industries, also of Monticello. She was known for her dedicated work ethic.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John David Summerford, and her sons David Franklin Summerford and Raymond Lamar Summerford.
Christine is survived by her son Robert W. Summerford, who lovingly cared for her throughout her long illness. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorsy (Dot) Marcussen and Molly Flemister, both of Monticello, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of Immanuel Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1281, Monticello, AR 71655.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 10, at Stephenson-Dearman with Zan Pierce, pastor of Immanuel Baptist, officiating.
